Capital Grants, Countryside Stewardship & SFI

Your planting project. A clear starting point.

Premier Forestry provides hedge planting contracting for new farm boundaries, estate hedgerows and projects connecting existing lengths of hedge. If you have an agreed BN11 planting project, send us your specification to discuss the work and a quotation.

What is BN11?

BN11 funds new hedge planting through Capital Grants 2026 and can also form part of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier. The planting location and control of the boundary determine eligibility. The full official BN11 specification sets out the conditions.

How does SFI fit in?

Capital Grants can complement Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) agreements. The Capital Grants guidance explains the relationship between the schemes.

In SFI 2026, CHRW2 covers hedgerow management. Newly planted hedges can qualify if they meet the action’s conditions; entering them brings separate ongoing management duties. See the SFI26 CHRW2 guidance when planning what follows the planting work.

A BN11 native hedgerow planting brief

Selected requirements to discuss when requesting a planting quotation:

  • Planting between 1 November and 31 March.

  • Two staggered rows, 40cm apart, with at least six plants per metre.

  • Two-year-old native transplants, 450–600mm tall.

  • No individual species exceeding 70% of the mix.

Ground preparation, protection, aftercare and evidence are also covered by the agreement. Use the complete BN11 requirements to prepare your brief.

New hedges or hedgerow gapping up?

For gaps of 20 metres or less within an existing hedge, check BN7 hedgerow gapping-up. The guidance directs larger gaps to BN11. Read the official BN7 guidance to identify the relevant specification before requesting a quotation.

Capital Grants 2026

Guidance checked 7 October 2026. The 2026 application round is closed. Existing agreement holders should follow their agreement documents when arranging work. Check the current Capital Grants guidance.

Can I enquire about hedge planting without a grant?

Yes. Our hedge planting service covers farms, estates and private land. Send your site location, approximate hedge length and proposed timing so we can discuss the work. For a grant-funded project, also include the approved planting specification and agreement dates.

What should I send for a hedge planting quotation?

Please send the hedge length, site location and access details, any planting plan or species mix, and the protection specified. Let us know what is already arranged so we can agree the scope of the planting work.
